C.A.R.E.S. is a tutoring program designed for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. These students meet Saturday mornings for a two-hour educational and mentoring session. High school students, future teachers and adult volunteers donate their time for these tutoring sessions. The first hour is devoted solely to the child's specific academic needs. The children that are seeking assistance are asked to arrive with the materials that they are struggling to understand. The tutors utilize all available supplies and the district's curriculum guides to aid the children with their needs. Tutoring manuals given to all tutors include helpful tips for the tutor and teaching strategies. Group reading and projects fill the second hour of the organizations allotted two-hour block of time. This hour is intended to cultivate the child's social skills by allowing them to participate in activities that enhance these abilities. The cost of a professional tutoring session is between $30 to $40 dollars per hour, whereas the C.A.R.E.S. sessions are free to all students.
